Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge 2017

Get Outdoors September 18 - October 15!

VCU is one of 92 schools participating in the Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge from September 18 through October 15. VCU has been competing in the Challenge since 2015, and each year we have risen in the final standings. This year, with our designation as a "Divison 1" school, VCU could win the National Outdoor Championship!

The challenge is open to everyone, not just VCU students. When you enter your activities, you earn points for your school, and you also earn points towards great prizes from the ON Challenge sponsors: REI, The North Face, Hydro Flask, and ENO. Drawings are held weekly, which means you have four weeks in which to earn some great outdoor gear.  Registration opens September 1. Anyone can join the challenge and can designate VCU as their school.

How to get involved:

Download the Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge app through your phone or at ONcampuschallenge.org.

Then get outside! Go hike, run, cycle, climb....whatever your favorite outdoor activity is...and log all of your activities in the app. You can even invite some friends along to get bonus points. The team with the most points at the end of the Challenge wins the National Championship (and bragging rights). Tell all your friends, and together let’s make VCU the 2017 National Outdoor Champions.

VCU Recreational Sports OAP No Slack Climbathon
Benefitting Operation Underground Railroad

October 14-15 Cary Street Gym

Love to climb? Love a challenge? Join us for our first ever 12-hour climbing marathon. Participants will climb at the Cary Street Gym and Manchester Wall, while also having the chance to participate in other activities like slacklining, log rolling, knot-tying races and more. Throughout the course of the event, you will check off climbs and activities completed. At the end of the event, turn in your log of all of your climbs to be used as a raffle ticket. We will have raffle prizes from local retailers such as Walkabout Outfitters and Peak Experiences Climbing Gym.

When you register, you automatically make a $15 donation to Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.). O.U.R. runs rescue missions across the world to bring children out of child trafficking situations, and we will have some O.U.R. volunteers to talk more about their cause. By sharing the mission of O.U.R. with your family and friends, you can earn more raffle tickets and help VCU make an even bigger difference in the life of a child.

Our fundraising goal for the Climbathon is $1000 to O.U.R.!  Donate to O.U.R. directly on behalf of the No Slack Climbathon.
