About Small Group Training 

Rec Sports offers several small group training programs in a variety of formats, so that you can find your favorite way to exercise! These programs are designed to challenge and advance your fitness skills in a specialized area. Small Group Training gives you the opportunity to work with a Certified Personal Trainer or specially certified coach in groups of 4-12 people at an affordable cost. Our coaches emphasize proper form and effective exercise progressions so you get the most out of your experience. If you prefer working out with other people in a team-oriented setting, these classes are for you!


 

Beginner Olympic-Style Weightlifting

Learn your lifts! If you've mastered the squat, press and deadlift, it's time to add some power! The Beginner Olympic-style Weightlifting class will introduce you to the sport of Olympic Weightlifting: the statch and clean & jerk. No prior Olympic weightlifting experience is required. At least 1-2 years of resistance training experience is recommended. This 8-week class meets three times per week in the Power Training Room at the MCV Campus Recreation Center.

Bootcamp

Test your limits! We are excited to announce this NEW addition to our Small Group Training programs! Bootcamp is for anyone looking to get serious about their conditioning. Bootcamp will challenge you physically and mentally to reach new heights of intensity. This class is held at Cary Street Gym in the MAC, giving you plenty of space and specialty equipment to learn new exercises and push yourself to the max. Whether it be sled drags, bear crawls, rope pulls or farmer carries, a Certified Personal Trainer will teach you how to utilize these conditioning tools to increase your strength, power and coordination. This mode of exercise allows you to work your entire body all at once. Do you want to improve your core stability? Increase your jumping power? Throw your body weight overhead? We have a Bootcamp for that. Avid participants in this class can expect to lose body fat, increase their fitness and improve their movement skills. While this class will get intense, no prior experience is necessary. Our trainers can modify all exercises to fit your current skill level, while coaching you to improve your body's capabilities. This class meets two times per week for six weeks.

Women's Bootcamp

YOU GO GIRL! This women-only twist on our Bootcamp class is the perfect fit for Women on Weights (WOW) graduates, or any women that want to get their sweat on in a positive, judgment-free environment.

Functional Fitness Training

Take your workouts to the next level with our Functional Fitness Training class! Certified Personal Trainers utilize the Synrgy360 to design unique and challenging circuits while emphasizing proper form in functional movements. Learn how to control your workout intensity to gain cardiovascular fitness and improve your body composition. This high-paced circuit-style program keeps things interesting as your trainer introduces new exercises and builds on previous technique work. Small group sizes of 4-8 people ensure team camaraderie without sacrificing individual attention. Boost your fitness, lose body fat and gain strength and stamina. This 6-week class meets twice per week and will have you busting through plateaus in no time!

Sport Club Strength & Conditioning

Is your sport club lacking the conditioning to play at your best? Did you know we offer on-campus programming to compliment your practices? Work with our Fitness program to schedule private strength and conditioning sessions with our Certified Personal Trainers. Women on Weights

Defeat your fitness center phobias! In this class, a Certified Personal Trainer will teach you the foundational methods of resistance training and program design. You will start with basic movements in the Group Exercise Studio to build confidence and progress to the Fitness Center for more advanced programming. Each week you will learn new equipment and exercises so you can dominate the weight room. Your trainer utilizes strength machines, resistance bands, cable stacks and free weights to build your skill and knowledge of proper technique and progressions. Start achieving your goals through knowledge and strength! 

This class meets twice per week for six weeks. All sessions will be held at the Cary Street Gym Group Exercise Studio and Fitness Center.
