Small Group Training

About Small Group Training 

Rec Sports offers several small group training programs in a variety of formats so that you can find your favorite way to exercise. These programs are designed to challenge and advance your fitness skills in a specialized area.

Small Group Training gives you the opportunity to work with a Certified Personal Trainer or specially certified coach in groups of 4-12 people at an affordable cost. Our coaches emphasize proper form and effective exercise progressions so you get the most out of your experience.

If you prefer working out with other people in a team-oriented setting, these classes are for you.

MCV Campus Bootcamp

Small Group Training has made its way to the MCV Campus! Join us for fun and fitness in this brand new class perfect for all age groups. This Bootcamp-style class will use circuits, team-based workouts, and challenges to test you physically and mentally. Small class sizes of 6-12 individuals provide the perfect opportunity to develop a fit fam and create friendships that last beyond the six week class.

MCV Functional Fitness Training

Take your workouts to the next level with our MCV Functional Fitness Training Class! This class will incorporate strength and circuit training to build your overall fitness level while emphasizing proper form on functional movements. Consistent participation in this class will increase overall fitness level, strength and stamina. Small group sizes of 4-8 people ensure team camaraderie without sacrificing individual attention.

Advanced Bootcamp

This class is designed for athletes looking to enhance their sport performance by improving their agility, speed, reactivity and power. Participants will learn a variety of drills that will translate directly to sport specific movements that will aid their performance on the court and/or field. Advanced Bootcamp will be held at Cary Street Gym upstairs in the M.A.C., where the class will have space to move freely and without interruption.

In the first two weeks, participants will focus on developing their speed and agility in multiple directions. The next stage of the class will incorporate reactivity while continuing to hone the skills learned in stage one. The third and final stage will utilize plyometric exercises to build power on top of the movement skills learned in the first four weeks.

Outdoor Bootcamp

We're taking our regular Bootcamp class... outside!! This interval-style class will utilize strength and cardiovascular training to get you fit and healthy, challenge your mind and body, and most importantly: make fitness fun. Our Certified Personal Trainers will take you through six weeks of progressing workouts to break through plateaus and provide maximum results. Since we'll be outdoors, be sure to show up with plenty of water to keep you hydrated. If weather conditions are not ideal, we'll move the class indoors.

Bootcamp

Bootcamp is for anyone looking to get serious about their conditioning. You will be challenged physically and mentally to reach new heights of intensity. This class is held at Cary Street Gym in the MAC, giving you plenty of space and specialty equipment to learn new exercises and push yourself to the max.

Whether it be sled drags, bear crawls, rope pulls or farmer carries, a Certified Personal Trainer will teach you how to utilize these conditioning tools to increase your strength, power and coordination. This mode of exercise allows you to work your entire body all at once.

Avid participants in this class can expect to lose body fat, increase their fitness and improve their movement skills. While this class will get intense, no prior experience is necessary. Our trainers can modify all exercises to fit your current skill level while coaching you to improve your body's capabilities. This class meets two times per week for six weeks.

Faculty/Staff Functional Fitness Training

Take your workouts to the next level with our Faculty/Staff ONLY class, Functional Fitness! This class will incorporate strength and circuit training to build your overall fitness level while emphasizing proper form on functional movements. This will be a class devoted to using our BRAND NEW FIT Zone, located on the first floor of the Fitness Center to build challenging and rewarding workouts. Consistent participation in this class will increase overall fitness level, strength and stamina. Small group sizes of 4-8 people ensure team camaraderie without sacrificing individual attention.

All sessions will be held at the Cary Street Gym.

Women on Weights

Defeat your fitness center phobias! In this class, a Certified Personal Trainer will teach you the foundational methods of resistance training and program design. You will start with basic movements in the Group Exercise Studio to build confidence and progress to the fitness center for more advanced programming.

Each week you will learn new equipment and exercises so you can dominate the weight room. Your trainer utilizes strength machines, resistance bands, cable stacks, and free weights to build your skill and knowledge of proper technique and progressions. Start achieving your goals through knowledge and strength!

This class meets twice per week for six weeks. All sessions will be held at the Cary Street Gym FIT Zone
