Graphic Designer‌ 

Marketing Assistants for Graphic Design is responsible for telling the story of VCU Rec Sports through visuals that engage our audience, excite them about our programs, facilities, and services, and encourage them to take action to participate. They contribute to the strategic development of the Rec Sports marketing plan and implements promotional communication through the creation of original graphics including, but not limited to logos, illustrations, visual elements, layouts for digital displays, website and social media elements, print collateral, facility signage, mobile displays, print advertising, mobile app, promotional giveaway items.


  • At least one year experience or one year of coursework in graphic design.
  • Strong graphic design skills as demonstrated through a portfolio of work.
  • Proven ability to work with digital image creation and editing software (Adobe Creative Suite/Creative Cloud experience preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a digital SLR camera and photo editing software at a beginning/intermediate level.

Group Exercise Instructor 

Group Exercise Instructors lead a variety of fitness classes. If qualified, this may include specialty classes such as Indoor Cycling, Water Fitness, and Cardio Dance.

Requirements: Current certification by one of the following nationally recognized fitness organizations is preferred: AFAA, ACEACSM HFS/HFI,  NSCA/CSCS or specialty certifications (ie. Kickboxing, U-Jam, Yoga Alliance, Spinning). One year teaching experience in group exercise is preferred.

Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies in and around the pool.


  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification (includes First Aid and CPR/AED)
  • Great customer service skills and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work on both campuses.

Maintenance Staff  

Maintenance Staff members are responsible for assisting with daily checklist maintenance of fitness equipment in the fitness activity areas. They assist with regular inspection of all weight equipment, maintain computerized workshop inventory, operate power equipment, power tools, hand tools, and automated systems. Maintenance staff members must be able to safely work with and around hazardous chemicals

Requirements: Ability to work at least 8 hours a week and must possess a general knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment, including basic tools.

Marketing Assistant 

Marketing Assistants are responsible for telling the story of VCU Rec Sports through written copy and verbal communication that engages our audiences, excites them about our programs, facilities, and services, and encourages them to take action to participate. They maintain a consistent and professional image and voice for Recreational Sports through the use of copywriting/editing, promotional communication, quality imagery and text, social media marketing concepts, and face to face interaction. They ensure all marketing messages and activities are in keeping with the mission, vision, and values of Recreational Sports.


  • At least one year experience or one year of coursework in public relations, marketing communication.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and planning skills.
  • Strong written communication skills as demonstrated through a portfolio of work.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and work independently.

Office Assistant

Office Assistants assist with processing new memberships, renewals, and locker rentals. They also provide support to the Administrative/Business Operations staff in day-to-day tasks such as answering and directing incoming calls, distributing mail, receiving visitors and assisting in membership reconciliation and payroll.


  • Professional demeanor, a positive attitude, ability to work independently and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer knowledge (Microsoft applications)
  • Good customer service and decision-making skills

Outdoor Adventure Program Attendant

Outdoor Adventure Program Attendants are responsible for check-in and checkout of climbing wall gear, OAP rental equipment, registration of participants for Outdoor Adventure Program activities, belaying of participants, instruction of Belay Clinics and Climbing Clinics, willingness to enforce gym rules and regulation and other duties as assigned. Basic wall cleaning and maintenance work is involved.

Requirements: Ability to lift at least 50 lbs, basic climbing and belaying skills or the ability to learn these, willingness to work nights and weekends, and an open and welcoming attitude toward all potential users.

Certified Personal Trainer

Personal Trainers are responsible for the design and management of clients' exercise programs. They are passionate, dedicated and determined to learn and grow along with their clients. It is their duty to motivate their clients to reach their goals and educate them during their fitness journey. Trainers at VCU Rec Sports train one-on-one and partner clients as well as instruct Small Group Training Classes. They conduct Fitness Assessments and measure blood pressure, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and cardiorespiratory fitness. Trainers provide their time and expertise to emphasize proper form, recovery and training methods. Trainers are expected to give each client their best and cater to their specific needs. If you are self-motivated, compassionate and eager to learn, this may be the best job for you.  

  • Requirements:
  • Must be currently certified by one of the following nationally recognized fitness organizations: ACE, ACSM, NSCA, or NASM.
  • You must have a sound knowledge of fitness and the ability to design fitness training programs for a variety of individuals and groups.
  • You must be available to work at Cary Street Gym and MCV Larrick Student Center, weekends, and special events.
  • Must be a current VCU student.

Marketing Assistants for Photography/Videography are responsible for telling the story of VCU Rec Sports through visual communication that engages our audience, excites them about our programs, facilities, and services, and encourages them to take action to participate. Service Attendant

Service Attendants are responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the recreation facilities, the equipment, and the service desk area. Also responsible for the participants using the facility; providing information about the facility including answering an over-the-counter request for information about the facility, equipment and programs; controlling access to the facility; telephone answering; and handling payment operations.

Requirements: Great customer service and the ability to work independently.

Sport Clubs Supervisor

Sport Clubs Supervisors are responsible for supervising evening and weekend Sport Club practices, games, and tournaments.They will work with officers, players, coaches, Recreational Sports staff, and visiting teams to promote a positive environment for all Sport Clubs related activities. This position encompasses a wide variety of program management, risk management, policy, procedures and training development, program administration, and program assessment and evaluation.

Sports Official

Intramural Sports Officials are responsible for officiating intramural sports including flag football, soccer, and basketball.

Requirements: Previous officiating/playing experience not necessary, but is helpful. Training is provided.

Water Safety Instructor

Water Safety Instructors are responsible for planning, coordinating and teaching learn to swim and water safety courses according to facility standards.

  • Water Safety Instructors must have the following to be considered for this position: 
    • Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification. Check our current certification opportunities. 
    • CPR/AED certification; and previous teaching experience.
    • Creative teaching style for children and adults

Weight Room Attendant

Weight Room Attendants provide assistance and instruction for patrons of the facility, keeping safety and fitness as top priorities. Attendants are responsible for cleanliness, order, and enforcing all rules, policies and procedures.  As a member of Recreational Sports team, you provide quality service, safety, and education for our members. Attendants are also responsible for conducting Fitness Center orientations as needed.

  • Requirements: Basic knowledge of strength training exercises, proper use of equipment/machines, spotting-assistance, and general anatomy.
  • Recommended Qualifications: Background and/or coursework in nutrition, exercise science; general knowledge of exercise equipment; workout regularly. Good verbal and written communication skills and customer service orientation.
