 Aquatic Center

  • Activity Pool (25 yards, 3 ft 6 inches -12 feet deep, ADA lift) with drop slide, 14-foot climbing wall, water basketball, and typically three lanes for circle swimming
  • Leisure Pool (24 yards, 0-5 ft deep, water wheelchair) includes zero entry, bench seating, water basketball and set-up for water volleyball, a vortex with circular current, and typically has 2 lanes for lap swimming
  • Spa (capacity 15, ADA lift) operates at a temperature of 102-104 degrees.
Fitness Center

Cary Street Gym Fitness Center Interior

The Cary Street Gym Fitness Center is 18,000 square feet, located to the left of the main entrance, on the main level. and on the mezzanine. The mezzanine is accessible by two stairways within the fitness center, or via the main stairs and elevator in Green Alley, at the center of the building. 

The Fitness Center features a variety of free weights, Olympic Weightlifting stations, functional training equipment, and a wide variety of cardio equipment as well as ADA accessible equipment. 

Climbing Area

The Cary Street Gym Climbing area features

  • a 35-foot climbing wall with six top rope and one lead climbing routes.
  • a freestanding boulder
  • an 18-foot bouldering section

Clinics, competitions, and open recreation all take place in the climbing area. Climbing shoes and harnesses are available for free check out with your VCU Card.

Four Court Gym

Cary Street Gym Four Court Gym

  • 4 hardwood courts marked for basketball, with backboards. 
  • Metal bleachers on either end of the courts. 
  • Other activities routinely scheduled on the courts are pickleball, volleyball, badminton and table tennis. 
  • The courts are used for VCU Intramural games, sport club tournaments, and special events.

In addition to serving as headquarters for the Rec Sports Outdoor Adventure Program, the Outing Rental Center features the Bike Shop, where you can attend bike repair clinics, have basic repairs done, and rent mountain and road bikes.

The Cary Street Field is an artificial turf field, with permanent markings for field hockey, men’s and women’s lacrosse, soccer, and flag football. The field accommodates Open Recreation, Sport Clubs, Intramural Sports and is home to VCU Varsity Field Hockey and Women’s Lacrosse. Also located at the Cary Street Field is an outdoor basketball court and access to two tennis courts at the Mary & Frances Youth Center.

MCV Campus Recreation and Aquatic Center, is located inside the Jonah L. Larrick Student Center. The facility features a 7,500 square foot Fitness Center with free weights, functional training equipment, and a wide variety of cardio equipment. Also included is the Fitness & Instructional Training Room featuring Olympic lifting platforms, the Martial Arts Training Room which is designed for martial arts, racquetball and squash courts, two-court gymnasium, Group Exercise, and Cycling studios, and a Massage Therapy room.

The MCV Campus Aquatic Center features a pool (25 meter, 4-5 ft deep, ADA lift) water basketball area, with 6 lanes, 4 of which are typically used for lap swim and 2 lanes for informal recreation. The heated spa (102 degrees) accommodate up to 5 people at a time (ADA lift).

Recreational Sports members have access to the tennis courts at the Mary & Frances Youth Center and the Thalhimer Tennis Center. Reserve Tennis Courts on the MyRecSports portal.

Thalhimer Tennis Center features 6 hard courts and is open year-round, with a climate-controlled bubble covering the courts from mid-October through early March.
