Sport Clubs Win Big at 2018-19 Honors Reception
By Jason P. Lee on Nov. 22, 2019
Sport Clubs at VCU have had an excellent year. More than 1,500 students, faculty and staff participated in 40 different clubs. Ten of those clubs participated in national championship events, including a top ten finish for Women’s Volleyball. Clubs went on 175 trips and hosted 52 on or around campus.
Sport Club Graduate Assistant Logan Madill reflects on the club’s accomplishments this past year. “I'm very proud of all of the hard work the club officers and participants have put in to make all these accomplishments happen. As administrators, it is our goal to get the clubs to travel and play in as many events as possible to represent the University and our department. The leaders of the organizations did a great job this past school year and I'm hoping we can continue to grow.”
To honor clubs for their achievements throughout the year, Logan, along with Jordan Gardner, Assistant Director for Structured Sports, and the Sport Club Supervisors planned a night of celebration for the clubs. The annual Sport Club Honors Reception was first held in 2016 to award the clubs and their members for their hard work. This year’s reception took place on Tuesday, April 23 in the VCU Sports Medicine Center.
Swimming Club and Sport Club Council President Grey English recalls looking forward to this event all year. “It is great to hear the amazing achievements of all the clubs at VCU and the stories of individual athletes being recognized for their personal achievement, work ethic and personality. The Rec Sports staff did an amazing job with set up and running this event. I can barely wait to see what they put together next year and the [future] progress of our clubs.”
