The Second Annual VCU Sport Club Honors Reception was held at the Tommy J. West Club in the Siegel Center on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. The Honors Reception is an opportunity for the Sport Clubs program to honor and acknowledge the athletes for their accomplishments in their respective seasons of competition, as well as the officers for the administrative work done throughout the year. This work includes submitting and managing paperwork; leading club members in practices and workouts, delegating tasks, and hosting and traveling to tournaments.

Over 60 Sport Club Officers and Division of Student Affairs administrators attended the reception. Nine clubs and six individuals were honored with awards in a variety of categories, including competitive excellence awards, organizational excellence awards and individual recognition awards. These awards recognize outstanding club officers for athletic and academic excellence. In addition to these awards, the Ram Award was given to freshman Shawn DiRocco of the Running Club. The Ram Award is among the most prestigious awarded at the Honors Reception, and it is awarded to the individual who best defines what a VCU Ram should be: a great student and athlete who is actively involved in the VCU community.

The Water Polo Club was awarded the Most Improved Club Award. This club formed in the fall semester of this school year, and they built the team up to compete in the second annual VCU vs University of Richmond Sport Club Capital Cup.

This year's Male Athlete of the Year, Denny Nguyen of the Swimming Club, was busy leading up to the Honors Reception. After competing at the 2018 College Club Swimming National Championships, Denny competed in the tenth season of the hit TV show ‘American Ninja Warrior.’

This year's reception was a very successful and positive moment that celebrated the spectacular accomplishments of the 2018 Sport Clubs and individual athletes. We’re proud of you, Rams!
