Our priority is the health, wellness, and safety of our community. 

Our adjustments and decisions are made with our students and members in mind. Additionally, we are a department primarily operated by students and we anticipate upcoming disruptions to our staffing through the remainder of the spring.

In order to best serve our community, all VCU Rec Sports facilities will be closed until further notice. This includes

  • Cary Street Gym
  • Cary Street Gym Aquatic Center
  • Cary Street Field
  • Cary Street Gym Climbing Wall
  • Outing Rental Center
  • Thalhimer Tennis Center
  • MCV Campus Recreation Center
  • MCV Campus Aquatic Center
 Programs

Rec Sports has launched and is expanding our Virtual Programming. All programs are free and available to anyone with an internet connection. Join us for live virtual fitness classes taught by Rec Sports instructors, online eSports tournaments, outdoor adventure virtual programs, parent and child activities, and informal recreation activities.   

All physical programs and services are canceled for the remainder of the spring semester.

Member Services

I am a Faculty and Staff member enrolled in Payroll Deduction

  • VCU Rec Sports will temporarily pause ALL Rec Sports payroll deductions effective payroll period beginning 3/24/2020. This means that you will still see Rec Sports deductions on the check you receive on 3/31/2020. The first check that will show NO Rec Sports deduction will be the check you receive on 4/16/2020. No action is required by the member.
  • Rec Sports deductions will automatically begin again for the payroll period beginning 5/25/2020. This means that you will begin to see Rec Sports deductions again on the check you receive on 6/16/2020 (subject to change based on the state of the COVID-19 outbreak). No action is required by the member.

I am enrolled in monthly billing

  • VCU Recreational Sports has paused all monthly billing charges through May 31st, 2020. 
  • You will NOT be billed for April or May 2020. 
  • Monthly billing charges will resume on June 1st, 2020 (subject to change based on the state of the COVID-19 outbreak).
  • To accommodate for the time lost in March of 2020 you will automatically receive a membership credit on account.

No action is required by the member.

I have a pre-paid term membership

  • VCU Recreational Sports will automatically extend term membership for the duration of time missed due to facility closures. Term members will receive at least ten additional weeks of membership at no charge.

No action is required by the member.

I have a locker and/or towel service

  • VCU Recreational Sports will automatically extend locker and towel service for the duration of time missed due to facility closures. 
    • Items in lockers will remain undisturbed through the updated locker terms.

The member services team will accommodate reasonable requests to pause, postpone, or cancel existing membership. Please contact our office directly to discuss options in detail.

Facility cleanliness

What is VCU Rec Sports doing?

  • Increasing cleaning efforts on high touch surfaces such as door handles, drinking fountains, and fitness equipment

  • Disinfecting open recreation equipment, such as basketballs, when equipment is returned

  • Diligently working to ensure hand sanitizer and wipe stations remained stocked

  • Disabling turnstile hand keys at all facilities. All patrons should check-in at the front desk

  • Regularly cleaning hampers and other storage bins where used towels are placed

What can you do as a member?

  • You can use gym wipes before and after your use of equipment

  • Wash your hands throughout your workout

  • Cover your coughs and sneezes

  • Use hand sanitizer stations and report empty wipe stations to our staff
