American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course with Online Training

Do you enjoy swimming and want to learn how to teach others how to swim? 

Join us to learn how to teach American Red Cross swim lessons:

  • develop your understanding of the six swimming strokes
  • learn how to design and conduct swim lesson classes
  • learn how to evaluate the swimmer's progress
  • learn how to teach adults and children

Prerequisites:

  • complete online training 
  • swim 25 yards of front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke
  • swim 15 yards of butterfly
  • tread water for 1 minute
  • maintain position on back for 1 minute (floating or sculling)
  • desire to teach
  • positive attitude

TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE COURSE AND RECEIVE AMERICAN RED CROSS WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION YOU MUST COMPLETE:

  • the above prerequisites on the first day of the course
  • turn in online training assignments by due date listed below
  • attend and participate in the entire course
  • complete lesson plans and practice teaches
  • successfully complete all reading assignments
  • successfully complete the written test
  • STUDENTS: $150
  • MEMBERS: $225
  • NON-MEMBERS: $275

Location: Cary Street Gym Aquatic Center

After completion of the course, there will be an opportunity to apply for employment and interview for open positions.
